RH-1:
The complexity of this project, almost makes it difficult to describe. This was the most challenging project ever built anywhere. The expectations of this client, also a repeat customer, were incredibly high.
Knowing the caliber of our work from a prior job, the customer was familiar with our capabilities to create incredible, never before seen decorative concrete applications. We were asked to reach deep and come up with the most amazing patio ever built. So we did.
95% of the exterior components on this job are concrete and wraps around the entire home. We are only showing and describing the patio here, which is about 1/3 of the job.
The patio is made up of over 1.5 miles of inlayed zinc divider strips, separating 3 different integrally colored pours of concrete, which included Italian marble chips, mother of pearl, and both chocolate and white glass aggregate, all ground and polished. The long bands that flow from end to end and contain our proprietary product Illumi-crete ™, which are fiber optic lights cast into concrete.
The steps are a monolithic pour, surrounding a one piece, stainless steel hot tub with glass tiled fire barrels at the sides. An elevated walkway wraps around the entire back of the home and creates a roof over the steps and outdoor kitchen. 1" thick glass windows were installed within the walkway at 3 locations.
The bedroom addition is a combination of Reward Wall ICF's, steel and 8' panels of curved glass. The roof of the addition is 2, 3" layers of concrete with a seamless rubber membrane in between.
The fire pit pad is approx. 30' in diameter, with a diamond ground design of a tribal tattoo that was enlarged from 3" in size, to a 29' stencil. The fire pit ring is approx. 6' in diameter with a 2' ring of black concrete and black glass aggregate. Illumi-crete highlights the ring and its edge line. The black glass aggregate was only broadcast within the beginning of the tattoo design, and then changes to hand applied stains with bronze tips at the ends. Where the tattoo hits the glass sitting wall, the tips also transform to a blend of glass tile.
A foundation was built for a sand pit and a canopy, were 2, 60" T.V.'s will rise up out of the sand by remote control. We also built a water feature across the entire front of the sandpit with an 8' spillway and 7 spitter jets (this is not seen in the current pic, as it was drained and shut down for the upcoming winter season). All of the capstones where precast with pure white concrete and the sides were rubbed with white overlay mix.
A glass tile fireplace sits at the front of the pump house building. The pad in the front of it was done in 2 pours, with the second pour being a concrete carpet made up of black concrete with a metal inlay border and the constellations of the husband and wife and their children were cast into the corners of the piece with Illumi-crete ™. The field was then diamond ground with an alligator skin look.
Without seeing more pics and closeups of other details that were included in the patio, it doesn’t make sense to describe any more of them here.
The challenges were simply to make sure every aspect was designed and constructed with quality and attention to detail. The many issues regarding drainage, utilities, and overall function from one area to the next, had to be closely watched and executed with precision at every step.
The owners could not be any happier. We far exceeded their expectations, which again were off the chart. We couldn’t be more proud of what we accomplished as a team. The real team was the combination of our guys, our decorative concrete suppliers and the tremendous technical support from our manufacturers, The Euclid Chemical Company, Scofield, Increte and Tremco. The result is what we call “Truly Cutting Edge”.
“We are not an expensive company. We just have more to offer than anyone else. We simply strive to deliver high end quality at a reasonable cost. That philosophy ultimately allows our customers to build more, for less.”
Gregory Mata, Owner
